On October 22, 1844, the Millerites heralded that Jesus would come a second time. Many were distraught and left the faith after realizing that Jesus did not come. This event is called the Great Disappointment. The Bible also prophesies this disappointment in Revelation 10. In fact, the parallel can be made between this event and the disciples’ misconception that Jesus would come again and set up a kingdom in Israel (Acts 1:6).
While some, gave up belief in God, others sought God again and restudied the prophecy of Daniel 8:14: “And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed”. Out of this group was born the Seventh-day Adventist Movement, and from that studying of the Word of God, they realized that October 22, 1844 Jesus began His ministry as High Priest in the Most Holy place of the heavenly sanctuary (Hebrews 9:11).
Today, one hundred seventy three years later, we herald the coming of our Lord to this earth. For the prophecy of Daniel 8:14 was the last time prophecy to be fulfilled. In Revelation 22:20 John records, “He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”
Our Savior is soon to return. Let us be ready.
God bless.
Amen.
