The frame of flesh is prone to frame God for its foibles. In fact the Bible, Elder Randy Skeete argues, begins with humanity blaming God. Adam’s response to God’s inquiry of his nakedness is, “The woman whom [T]hou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat” (Genesis 3:13). Eve likewise, insinuating the Creator of the serpent as the cause of her demise, bemoans, “The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat” (Genesis 3:14). One chapter later, Cain also challenges God’s justice, when after murdering his brother he cries, “My punishment is greater than I can bear” (Genesis 4:13). For the carnal mind is enmity against God (Romans 8:7), and, “[t]he heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it” (Jeremiah 17:9)? And may we add, what truth would it want to know about self?
For this cause, God must have a system of reckoning and meticulous record, to banish humanity’s blame. For the sake of God’s righteous name, He has books of record in which are recorded the motives, thoughts and actions of all humanity, so earth, the angels, and unfallen worlds can see that God is blameless in His determination of the righteous and unrighteous.
