What is Truth? Part 2

For a clearer understanding of this post, please read, “What is Truth? Part 1.”

God through the Word created the heavens and the earth. He made man in His own image (Gen. 1:27), even with the character of God. But, Satan, through the serpent beguiled our first parents, Adam and Eve. And the image of God began to corrode in them as sin rusted their hearts.

Now this same Word, to save humanity from utter sin, became flesh to recreate in man the image of God. And the means whereby we would be sanctified is the truth (John 17:17). And the truth is God’s Word: the Old and New Testaments, His witnesses (Rev. 11:3, 4) and even Jesus (John 14:6). For as we eat of the Word and behold Christ, we are changed into that image (2 Cor. 3:18).

For whereas by deception we were chained to sin, by truth we receive liberty (Ro. 6:16; James 2:8-12; 2 Cor. 3:1). For whereas by deception, we became blind, loving darkness rather than light (Jo. 3:19), by truth we see through the eyes of faith by hearing the Word (Ro. 10:17; 2 Cor. 5:7). For whereas by deception we work the works of the devil, by truth we work the works of God the Father (Jo. 8:38, 44; 5:16, 17). For whereas by deception, “the love of many shall wax cold” (Matt. 24:12), by truth, “[God’s] love is perfected in us” (1 Jo. 4:12). For whereas by deception we were estranged from God (Is. 59: 2), truth is the way in which the Spirit leads us back to God (Jo. 16:13). For whereas by deception sin entered the world (Genesis 3:9-13), by truth Christ overcomes the world (John 16:33).

Friends, truth is the medium through which we hear the voice of God, receive our salvation and become like Him. It is the active ingredient in the antidote for sin.

Pilate did not take the time to hear this truth. The din of the people filled his ears, and through their persuasion, he lost the free gift of salvation (Jo. 19:1-16). O, that we would hearken unto the Lord! O, that we would have ears to hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches (Revelation 2:7; Matt. 11:15)!

Friends, the coming of the LORD is at the door! Look at how the world is shutting down over COVID-19. And this is just the beginning (Matthew 24:8). The prophetess Ellen G. White tells us:

Great changes are soon to take place in our world, and the final movements will be rapid ones (Last Day Events, p. 11.2)

Friends, let us have a practical knowledge of the truth. Let us, “work the works of [the Father], while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work” (John 9:4).

Thank You Jesus!

Amen!
